All of our staff are carefully chosen based on their readiness to be provide safe, caring, and fun-filled experiences for campers. Staff are committed to the emotional and physical development of each and every camper.
The process of becoming a Ryerson staff member includes: 1) written application; 2) interview; 3) reference checks; 4) submission of a Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector screening; 5) Submission of a Voluntary Disclosure Form if the Police Records Check is more than 1 year old.
Staff training includes an orientation weekend in May, 2 weeks of head staff training and one week of training for all staff. Staff training covers camp policies, staff expectations, healthcare needs for campers, CAS (Children's Aid Society), Boundary and Prevention training by the United Church of Canada, faith formation, and area specific training.
Many of our staff are graduates of Leadership Development Camp - a training program run through 3 collective United Church Residential Camps. Each year, a great number return to camp to continue our traditions and positive camp experiences.
Our Health Care Coordinator is an experienced first aider, with additional emergency or health training, who supervises our health care centre (aka the MED SHED), the distribution of medication, and assist in promoting a safe and healthy camp environment. An on call physician in Simcoe offers guidance to our onsite staff when needed.
Trained Lifeguards supervise our Waterfront. We have 3 guards posted on each swim at the Camp's Waterfront - at least 2 hold their NLS (National Lifeguarding Service) certificates and the other holds a minimum of Bronze Cross. All our lifeguards hold a minimum of Standard First Aid.
